Ballet Bodies YYC is seeking adult dancers to participate in their upcoming performance, In Motion III at the DJD Dance Theatre. The performances will be held on Friday, November 15th at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Six original dance pieces will be choreographed by Sabrina Naz Comănescu, Barbara England, Edmund Stripe, Kaitlyn Seibold, Alexandra Contreras, and Izabela Zawadzka.

  • We encourage dancers with diverse dance backgrounds to apply.

  • In-person and Video Auditions are available.

  • In-person auditions are limited to 25 dancers. First come- first serve.

  • Deadline to sign up for in-person and video auditions -> June 17th at 8 pm

  • Dancers will have to sign up for each choreographer separately.

  • Dancers can audition for multiple choreographers but can only be cast for one piece.

Audition results: all dancers will be notified by Thursday, June 27th.

    Dance Style: A mixture of Jazz, Contemporary and other African diasporic styles.

    Description: Sabrina loves to explore the nature of Jazz and Caribbean movement and music, as well as various funk styles. For this piece I am looking forward to creating something that touches on rooted Jazz, Contemporary and other African diasporic styles.

    Piece length: 6-8 minutes

    Dance Level: Intermediate

    Dance Style: Contemporary

    Description: This contemporary dance piece will feature two dance artists who, above all, enjoy working together! Bring out your dramatic side, your joy for specificity, and love for physicality. Advanced/Professional dancers of ALL "styles" are encouraged to apply! This piece will be created with and for the dynamic duo in this piece. The audition will involve a short phrase, some improvisation, and a touch of voice work -- Looking forward to meeting you!

    Piece length: 6-8 minutes

    Piece Description: This work delves into the blend of physical theatre and dynamic contemporary movement. It is an extension of a previous work Stump Series emphasizing strong, high-energy, rhythmic, and emotionally charged choreography enriched by gestural storytelling.

    Description: This will be a contemporary ballet piece set to an eighties folk rock song in a 3/4 beat!

    Dance Style: Contemporary/ Contemporary Ballet

    Description: “The most important thing for me during cooperation is to obtain the individual quality of the dancers, to extract from them the essence of emotions that will draw them into the magic of deep giving and receiving. I would like to open dancers to a process that goes through the whole body and involves the audience. I want to use natural movement, interwoven with the qualities of classical dance, which, when curved, create a contemporary composition of bodies.”

    Piece length: 7-9 minutes

    Casting 6 dancers

    Dance Level: Intermediate

    Total rehearsal hours: 24 + tech rehearsals

    Dancer Honorarium: $600

    Dancers MUST be available for the following dates:

    • Tech rehearsal: Approximately 5 hours on Thursday, Nov 14th, between 9 am and 9 pm (hours to be confirmed in September)

    • Show Dates: Friday, November 15th at 6:30 pm, Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 pm and 6:30 pm.

    Rehearsal dates: The piece will be created during rehearsals between July 24th and August 28th. Rehearsal days and times will be scheduled depending on the dancers’ availabilities. There will be two rehearsals in October:
