Class Etiquette & Studio Guidelines

Welcome to Ballet Bodies YYC. We’re grateful for the supportive, welcoming community that makes our classes such a positive experience for dancers of all backgrounds. To help ensure classes run smoothly and everyone can enjoy their time in the studio, we ask all participants to review the following class etiquette and studio guidelines.

Sharing the Barre

Our classes can be full, and thoughtful barre sharing helps ensure everyone has enough space to move safely and comfortably.

  • When setting up at the barre, please be mindful of your placement. If the dancer facing you is closer to one side, positioning yourself on the opposite side helps balance the space.

  • Place your hand closer to the quarter section of the barre rather than the center to allow room for others.

  • In busier classes, three or even four dancers may share a barre. Flexibility, awareness, and courtesy are always appreciated

Arriving Late to Class

We understand that schedules can be unpredictable, and arriving late from time to time is completely okay. When this happens, we kindly ask dancers to enter the studio in a way that minimizes disruption to the class.

Helpful options include:

  • Using a barre located closer to the studio doors.

  • Joining a barre that already has two dancers and becoming the third.

  • Setting up additional barres only when absolutely necessary, as moving equipment once class has started can be disruptive.

Supporting Class Flow

Ballet Bodies YYC offers affordable, advanced-level ballet classes in response to a strong community need. To maintain this level and move efficiently through the full class within our 1.5-hour timeframe, we appreciate your support with the following:

  • Please be ready to divide into groups quickly for centre work.

  • For corner exercises, stand in the corner only if you are about to go next. If you are waiting or choosing to sit out, move to another area of the studio so the flow of the exercise remains clear.

  • Questions and clarifications for teachers are always welcome. If a question requires more in-depth discussion, we encourage connecting with the teacher after class so we can stay mindful of time for everyone.

Studio Policies & Support

To help keep the studios clean, safe, and running smoothly, please note the following:

  • No eating is permitted inside the studios. Water bottles are welcome.

  • If an issue arises during class that needs immediate attention (for example, the sound system not working), please visit the DJD Help Desk for assistance.

  • For feedback or concerns that are not time-sensitive, we kindly ask that you contact Ballet Bodies YYC first before reaching out to DJD. You can do so by emailing info@balletbodiesyyc.com.
