Mya Kresnyak
Born in Vancouver, BC, Mya began her dance training at the Vancouver Junior Professional Division under the direction of Kate Robbins and Elizabeth Isabelle. After graduating from the school’s professional program, she moved to the United States to continue her studies at the Harid Conservatory and Master Ballet Academy. Between the ages of 11 and 16, Mya participated in the Youth America Grand Prix, where she was recognized with multiple awards, including the Youth Grand Prix at the Seattle Semi-Finals (2015), the Grand Prix at the Phoenix Semi-Finals (2017), and the Gold Medal for Contemporary Pas de Deux at the New York City Finals (2017). The following year, she attended the USA International Ballet Competition, earning the Robert Joffrey Award of Merit and a contract with Atlanta Ballet II.
In 2020, Mya joined Alberta Ballet. Over four seasons with the company, she expanded her technical range and artistic depth, performing numerous featured roles including Klara in The Nutcracker and Red Riding Hood in Morgan Runnacre Temple’s Der Wolf. Her time with Alberta Ballet provided valuable opportunities to refine her versatility and stage presence across both classical and contemporary repertoire.
Alongside her performance career, Mya has developed a strong voice as a teacher and choreographer. Her work reflects a deep understanding of classical technique paired with a contemporary sensibility. Most recently, she had the opportunity to create for Ballet Bodies YYC’s performance series In Motion IV, marking a meaningful step in her emergence as a choreographer.
